Hey everyone! I hope your week went well. TGIF, right?! This week’s block is simple and cute, with options to add a little extra frill if you’re in the mood for some hand embroidery. As much as I wanted to, I just couldn’t find the extra time while trying to finish up two crochet projects, having an Easter egg hunt in our back yard for the kids and their friends and cousins AND being almost 8 months pregnant and tired and grumpy. (Deep breath!). Of course I think the extra detail would be adorable, so I’d love to see if anyone adds it to their block!
Each week I fall more in love with this quilt! Every block adds so much character and my kids absolutely love them. This will be a keepsake quilt, for sure! My block model hasn’t been feeling well, so there aren’t any big, beautiful brown eyes in today’s post. She did get the messy bun beanie she had been asking for last night so I’ll be sure to add pics when she’s up and smiling again!
On to the quilt block…
I thought it would be fun to share a little snippet of my design process for our weekly block! First I start out with the “idea sketch” aka the ugly sketch. It looks rotten and stinky, but it’s how I throw my idea for the basic composition down quickly without any attention to details. Eventually I narrow down what I want in the block and eliminate elements that don’t work. Not all the process is shown here, but it’s a look at the beginning. Thank God I don’t use the ugly sketch, right?! 😉
What You Need:
- 12″ square background fabric
- Scraps for the different components of the block (think pie crust, blueberry filling, blueberries, steam and a sweet handkerchief!)
- Thread, etc.
- Templates, download HERE.
Tip: Starch your block on the back side after you’ve applied the Heat-N-Bond elements but before stitching, being sure to reach the edges. This helps reduce fraying as you work on the block!
I forgot to grab a tonal for the steam, but you can see the Dear Stella hearts fabric I chose in my finished block pic above. You can also trace with a pencil and just machine stitch the steam, too!
Since this block really doesn’t have anything new or funky, I won’t talk your ear off this week! (Type your eyes off…? :O Let’s just stick with the old saying!)
If you find yourself losing steam, grab all your blocks and lay them out together. It’s so exciting to see it all start coming together! If you’re lucky enough to have a design wall, you can keep these pretties in view all the time.
We’re almost half way through, can you believe it?
This post is certainly short, so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below. I sometimes forget to check my form submissions, so if it’s urgent it’s best to comment below! Otherwise I’ll get back to you by the email you provide when filling out the form.
In Other News…
I don’t mention my yarn shop here often, so I’ll tack it on to the end of this post. I’m going to be trying out a new selling platform, and am posting all my latest and greatest there over the course of the next few weeks. I won’t be announcing on any social media until a week or two into May, so if you’d like to snatch a skein before everyone knows, click the images below and you’ll be taken to the new and currently secret shop! More will be added soon. P.S. You can save 30% off your entire purchase with code SMPANNIVERSARY while Scott’s Marketplace celebrates their 3rd anniversary! Only valid through 4/29/2017.
There’s a teensy gift attached to the right side of every skein!
(Not pictured, gotta love a mystery 🙂 )
Have a great weekend everyone! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
